The Power of the New Covenant

At the end of this age, there will be a generation that lives in the good of everything the New Covenant promises to the believer. Of this last generation it is said, "And they overcame him [the dragon] by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death" (Revelation 12:11). Are you and I living according to the New Covenant? Do we know the articles of this covenant as spoken by God? You might be surprised at what the first article really is.

What is the New Covenant? Every moment of every day, we need to see that Jesus is our mediator. A believer that is living according to the New Covenant knows very clearly that they have nothing to offer other people. Paul did not come with excellency of speech and wisdom. He determined to know nothing among the churches other than Jesus Christ and him crucified. He had one desire: to exalt Jesus Christ and to demonstrate the work of the Spirit and the power of God.

There is a form of godliness that is present among many church goers. But, where is the power over sin? Where is the power to forgive? We teach and have church services, but where is the power to carry burdens without complaining, or without thinking evil of another brother or sister? Are we satisfied with an external form of godliness? We may meet like a New Testament church, but we can still deny the power of God to crucify our sinful flesh each and every day.

We like to speak what the Lord does for us. But how often do we speak of what the Lord is doing in us? It is easier for God to heal a lame man than to change the heart of a man. This is the power of the New Covenant - to transform the heart. Do not be deceived in this late hour. There is a form of godliness among many churches, but the power of the New Covenant is missing.

What really is a New Testament church? Most answers involve the form of the meeting. However, this is not the Lord's way. A New Testament church is a church that is intimately familiar with the articles of the New Testament.  A New Testament church is a church that lives out the tenants of the New Covenant. How intimately familiar are you with the covenant you are living under as a Christian? What is the most important article of the New Covenant? Is it that God through Christ will forgive our sin? You may be surprised to learn that this is not the first article of the New Covenant.

In the Garden of Eden, something precious to God died in the heart of man. God said, "Adam, where are you?" Adam's ability to commune, to fellowship had ceased, had died. It is God's great purpose to restore that communion again. This is the first and greatest article of the New Covenant. May this message inspire a rediscovery of the New Testament among the Lord's disciples in these last days. Our ability to overcome will be directly linked to letting God make good in our lives the articles of His New Testament promise. May this be so in your people, Lord. Amen.
